Acorn pot

This little pot which reminds me of an acorn, will be living in the northeastern tri-state area, real soon. I made a few of these (which I posted earlier, unfinished) and haven't decided who will get which pot. I am not sure how useful this pot will be since it is only and inch tall. Maybe being cute is enough.

Keepers to keep

I have a problem. I like my pottery too much to sell or give it away. As I make more pots I will have be more selective about what I keep. Maybe as I make more similar pieces, I will be able to add it to the sell or give shelf that I am trying to stock with the idea of a future sale and Christmas. Not to have the pressure to produce pottery and keep all that I like (for now) is quite a luxury. I am lucky to have such a "problem".

Pretzel keeper

I've finally made a container tall enough for my pretzels. They're my favorite no-guilt snack as of late. They meet my need to crunch without too much sodium or fat.  So to keep them handy I made a pot especially to store one whole package. It's about 10" tall. The way the glazes took to the knob was a pleasant surprise. The bands of dark and light on and under the knob give it a nice contrast. Another keeper for me and my pretzels.

Remote blogging

Yesterday I was in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art .
Loved every minute of it. This pot is as huge as it appears in the photo

A bit spotty

When in a weird mood I made a vase with a weird shape which required a weird glazing. Random spots of Nutmeg on plum gave a finish with speckles within the spots. I'm liking how the Snowflake glaze on the interior meets and melts with the Nutmeg/Plumb combo. Love it or hate it? I still haven't made up my mind. It requires a spell on the shelf and further contemplation I do believe. Maybe I need to be in a weird mood to appreciate it.

Pot on a little pedestal

To make life a little easier for myself when it is time to glaze, I have been adding or carving out a pedestal. It's so much easier to hold the bottom for a quick dip or two in the glaze bucket with a base like that. Allowing the pot to sit up a bit higher off the table gives it more height and presence which are good features for a little lidded pot to have. This pot has such a think layer of cream glaze, which thankfully did not blister, that you can feel the ridge of the drip. As you can see I was playing around with the lighting. One of these days I'll get it right.

Carry-on pottery

Well, it's that time of year again when I make my journey back East to visit friends and family. I travel the worst possible way: airline stand-by. Since I am never guaranteed I will make a flight, I never check luggage. Previous years I have shipped a box of pottery goodies a few day before leaving so that it would arrive a day after arriving. This year I went miniature. The lidded pots, which are about 1 1/2 inches tall will be wrapped in my socks with the hope that I will remember that fact when I unpack! Nothing like hearing a thud and a clank when digging through my backpack. Also, I am crossing my fingers that airport security doesn't think the shapes they create in their scanning machines look suspicious enough to make me unpack. I am not a very suspicious-looking person, but I have been wanded and frisked, my flashlight disassembled and even my pet cockatiel was frisked and it's seeds  searched (when we moved west). Can't wait.

Shallow bowls

This time of year, especially, I am finding a need for some bowls with a low profile and the weight of pottery. When I am out in the garden, fumbling with some seed packets, I use one bowl to keep the packets from blowing away and the other for placing the seeds in. It's nice to be able to have a need and then go and make it by myself for myself.
