Two of the glazes were Amaco Potters Choice Cosmic Tea Dust and Cosmic Oil Spot. Now I personally am drawn to glittery things but I wasn't sure I would like the look on my stoneware creations. I used Tea Dust on a cloaked figure (pictured a few posts back) and I kinda liked how that looked. To get the best reflection of the glittery particles in the glaze, I applied two coats of Amaco Obsidian glaze and then two coats of the Cosmic Tea Dust to my small lidded pot that's 3 inches tall by 2 inches wide. It's so beautifully glittery in the sunlight. I'm mesmerized. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: center;">The mug has Cosmic Oil Spot on the rim and sprig. I like the watery/oily look but the glittery flecks are larger. I think it's use on the mug is successful but I'll have to figure out how else to make it work. And isn't that part of the fun.</span></div><p></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-13678342563479386482022-12-01T11:52:00.000-08:002022-12-01T11:52:11.631-08:00I'm Back At It!<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjichrMZdJQeYKhDy5FqvnNHOISDbaqYld3r9AleoB4cBVokIQTQhVcfJPNVIv6E1yMWmcyq38PElSHFcprzWTS0QOmwDhorKzXAfI6Wr8avqybbthQq9cyd4wU-HJNUmJyIGak7WiD0RcFe-8L_fFzHHCexbKt7Gjcryboq6Xj2rVom-hIAV9_P7CCXA/s1920/Screenshot_20221201-115946.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1920" data-original-width="1080" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjichrMZdJQeYKhDy5FqvnNHOISDbaqYld3r9AleoB4cBVokIQTQhVcfJPNVIv6E1yMWmcyq38PElSHFcprzWTS0QOmwDhorKzXAfI6Wr8avqybbthQq9cyd4wU-HJNUmJyIGak7WiD0RcFe-8L_fFzHHCexbKt7Gjcryboq6Xj2rVom-hIAV9_P7CCXA/w180-h282/Screenshot_20221201-115946.jpg" width="180" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Me, when I realize that almost another year has passed without posting to my blog!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I kinda took a break from pottery this past spring and summer. It's about 6 inches tall. I threw it on the wheel as a thick-walled enclosed shape. Once it got to be a soft leatherhard, I carved away the excess clay to reveal this figure. I carved a space behind the hands to put a crystal or a tiny bowl for an incense cone as shown here. The sparkly robes are are from Cosmic Tea Dust glaze by Amaco. I used it 3 ways: alone, layered over a black glaze and over Iron Luster glaze (Amaco). The glittery glossy black finish is my favorite. The others resulted in a dark brown glittery finish which works well in texture and adds depth and interest to another wise dark piece. <p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-50742902585130475232021-10-31T15:42:00.000-07:002021-10-31T15:42:10.857-07:00Happy Halloween 🎃 <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvjp4iH0J2Mh5ADZoRMAkXvgvuLnkpj-XjI9xNM5ZhL8J0sQHqQbVuRYGOUOEZLO0jNpKrT8lBGS9CQupGpE1iS121B3mqb4YrzxwQ03LethjtVCC3VRM34A4rjLyuaGAOtcV46N7nYCig/s1920/Screenshot_20211031-163401.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1920" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvjp4iH0J2Mh5ADZoRMAkXvgvuLnkpj-XjI9xNM5ZhL8J0sQHqQbVuRYGOUOEZLO0jNpKrT8lBGS9CQupGpE1iS121B3mqb4YrzxwQ03LethjtVCC3VRM34A4rjLyuaGAOtcV46N7nYCig/s320/Screenshot_20211031-163401.jpg" width="180" /></a></div><br /> Photo credits go to my daughter who inspired me to make her a pumpkin that uses a tea light to heat scented oil.<p></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-68691662872098477622021-10-21T00:00:00.001-07:002021-10-21T00:00:00.213-07:00I Made 2 But I Have 3<p> I completed my 2 pumpkins before Halloween. Yay! I used Spectrum Saffron Shino glaze to get a realistic satin finish. It's exactly what I was hoping for. Now the third pumpkin is a furry one. She is a very sweet neighborhood cat that comes to visit me in the garden. I named her Pumpkin and she comes when I call her. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaHzzoMZlfIIu6WVb5vfVYvY-_NNw-Y-bVJb72CaVgXBOaxq0EzI0V1sMyaxBw6-FhnxftPw3sUPmVkA8o8ceCMTIwCFnD0AT0Ja_k5Aa8q5QYieU7XMizPnxIu9XhggqdIlaHL9iQBy0G/s2048/IMG_20211018_085421.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaHzzoMZlfIIu6WVb5vfVYvY-_NNw-Y-bVJb72CaVgXBOaxq0EzI0V1sMyaxBw6-FhnxftPw3sUPmVkA8o8ceCMTIwCFnD0AT0Ja_k5Aa8q5QYieU7XMizPnxIu9XhggqdIlaHL9iQBy0G/s320/IMG_20211018_085421.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfIxu3zHztIIzFyR8DfDmBikh305KSLRKa4ttafc_PorUQtU2ytQRJE9zd4ML9wtzNU1DJMAzDTpgxnZacOBvoFe7QnhtBl0vC0Akd-OQ5v8TT9icR0v0opx6SlPA1pfNreKuRg9IEClgE/s2048/IMG_20211018_085445.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfIxu3zHztIIzFyR8DfDmBikh305KSLRKa4ttafc_PorUQtU2ytQRJE9zd4ML9wtzNU1DJMAzDTpgxnZacOBvoFe7QnhtBl0vC0Akd-OQ5v8TT9icR0v0opx6SlPA1pfNreKuRg9IEClgE/s320/IMG_20211018_085445.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-62291679267341389042021-10-07T00:00:00.001-07:002021-10-07T00:00:00.219-07:00Power to Pumpkins <p> I recently enjoyed creating two small pumpkins. Many Halloweens have come and gone and this is the first time. Before I throw at the wheel, I find I am more successful if I make a little sketch. It usually winds up on the back of a junk mail envelope. Of course, that's when I wished I had worked in my sketch book to save for future reference. Especially when I include notation of measurements. </p><p>Anyway, the one with the thicker, cup-like stem is an essential oil burner and the other one will be for a tea light or incense cone. I made a hole in the stem to act like a chimney to funnel the hot air or smoke. A lot of adding and subtracting of clay to the fish bowl shapes, that I threw on the wheel, was necessary to achieve realistic looking pumpkins. Of course it's fair game to any wildlife that finds it. I happened to hear clicking by my front door on my front porch. Well not one, but three big bucks were hungry. The fact that it was a small bird feeder or a small front porch didn't matter.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqTpDyBq8VdsF7tZcKwzS4sM8g29pvVsYWGQ8y_ehBBmgx_0g9fgHD9kBburbVRPEUW_Y4kyzuQ61oYiQKNyI2mHOKkjO3oxkNAlVOeQYjegfJZZidZ2Oahzry2G3S3xUaprk1zOMavLeA/s2048/IMG_20210907_151619.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqTpDyBq8VdsF7tZcKwzS4sM8g29pvVsYWGQ8y_ehBBmgx_0g9fgHD9kBburbVRPEUW_Y4kyzuQ61oYiQKNyI2mHOKkjO3oxkNAlVOeQYjegfJZZidZ2Oahzry2G3S3xUaprk1zOMavLeA/s320/IMG_20210907_151619.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCkUKhx9M01DdLOt_YitegULGfQWtDZBUG5pcJ71fYrCUzB0acWWY123GFn94Rk0Zj_bfeBqdlu7kKVkDsrhHwtDlEccKw2y4c7oc3_ASN4rJZhDEOu-fKQTEcicL9WVxA48zQvBeeBkUy/s2048/IMG_20210907_151151.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCkUKhx9M01DdLOt_YitegULGfQWtDZBUG5pcJ71fYrCUzB0acWWY123GFn94Rk0Zj_bfeBqdlu7kKVkDsrhHwtDlEccKw2y4c7oc3_ASN4rJZhDEOu-fKQTEcicL9WVxA48zQvBeeBkUy/s320/IMG_20210907_151151.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiadjMqzsuic6TkUDGuJWdjjktuh1jQgFCiIsrM2wH0Iqkqla7GkuHvm6mn3Y97aFY7vIPNejEOjtdodifl-2Cmyk49zDQXCsPyfSn9hbVQ8zP1lO0dwG2-helR1bAZMo_VWife3p9L02J-/s2048/IMG_20210907_151147.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiadjMqzsuic6TkUDGuJWdjjktuh1jQgFCiIsrM2wH0Iqkqla7GkuHvm6mn3Y97aFY7vIPNejEOjtdodifl-2Cmyk49zDQXCsPyfSn9hbVQ8zP1lO0dwG2-helR1bAZMo_VWife3p9L02J-/s320/IMG_20210907_151147.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-20129967966583988492021-09-23T00:00:00.001-07:002021-09-23T00:00:00.182-07:00An Order For A Friend<p> Two smaller sized mugs were requested for a friend. Both are for her grand kids. Custom made mugs ordered by grandma. How cool is that?! I like the idea of introducing young people to the arts and crafts. You never know what might enrich someone's life or spark a new hobby or even a career. I hope they like them.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCk3jOE4kpnIHw8xqAtg_WOS8aLSCAb_FSpw413M5u7D4hcC55b-p49tfgZ2p73_hKUpMsosd0hcqBwdz6TRk2NQvW8u46xKeTfJYw0U6zHD_qBvG45Av-rwHv9XvB-m15SvNsIL8M6X-f/s2048/IMG_20210907_122022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCk3jOE4kpnIHw8xqAtg_WOS8aLSCAb_FSpw413M5u7D4hcC55b-p49tfgZ2p73_hKUpMsosd0hcqBwdz6TRk2NQvW8u46xKeTfJYw0U6zHD_qBvG45Av-rwHv9XvB-m15SvNsIL8M6X-f/s320/IMG_20210907_122022.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg85YS3CCtWMaL5vRlHeIJCRUF-YqY87u7-Y9-CrASICjHxKQXbP65rgF5aEm094-rXNyDrv1cnaNb6mvzhGbNFTHSZ77nIp9cDsbYytv5HeXGygJ9x5ZLlFfPFxn1MVzo69aoRkAjHdrg-/s2048/IMG_20210907_122054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg85YS3CCtWMaL5vRlHeIJCRUF-YqY87u7-Y9-CrASICjHxKQXbP65rgF5aEm094-rXNyDrv1cnaNb6mvzhGbNFTHSZ77nIp9cDsbYytv5HeXGygJ9x5ZLlFfPFxn1MVzo69aoRkAjHdrg-/s320/IMG_20210907_122054.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-58478920507763705752021-09-16T00:00:00.001-07:002021-09-16T00:00:00.181-07:00<p> I haven't traveled much lately, in fact, not at all. But my mug made a trip. It went camping in a ruggedly beautiful and remote area of southern Utah. It sat on a rocky precipice to enjoy the views. It felt the wind on its handle and soaked up the warm sunshine. It even cozzied up to the campfire to watch the fire flicker. It had a great time so I've been told.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0uFjQdZ4VCcUmpuvx2S-khP4hx8n_W0Y6-oNYsctTOPXqyX5HQToE7a6DiG4v57-jW-bY6zJeYJ-ViooAlpogA3kAEtOjC0fwYdhdNG3bQYi9Vted0Z3A2xAL0aOkkrwD2vsrKBQfkV1q/s1920/Screenshot_20210902-235202.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0uFjQdZ4VCcUmpuvx2S-khP4hx8n_W0Y6-oNYsctTOPXqyX5HQToE7a6DiG4v57-jW-bY6zJeYJ-ViooAlpogA3kAEtOjC0fwYdhdNG3bQYi9Vted0Z3A2xAL0aOkkrwD2vsrKBQfkV1q/s320/Screenshot_20210902-235202.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJBSsPGoyTJJ__zJUn81LGWVQnOdsxIgoE2tTOxNXsmaQWTZmfqLnbdR_i5Sisx6kGykV5wV-kXJiI9BDHHii2Cr3gc0m26wjznr-xk3c24fKNSaC22T7BaCcJtsrzfg7dHNXev6nfyafy/s1920/Screenshot_20210902-235220.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJBSsPGoyTJJ__zJUn81LGWVQnOdsxIgoE2tTOxNXsmaQWTZmfqLnbdR_i5Sisx6kGykV5wV-kXJiI9BDHHii2Cr3gc0m26wjznr-xk3c24fKNSaC22T7BaCcJtsrzfg7dHNXev6nfyafy/s320/Screenshot_20210902-235220.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZmFL1S5VaAz867x_vcZaso3VZ04JvWIJJ2bXKeD7vGELFtuOzACmBkZz93MOulkMrq7LnpR2HrmI193kZDvjepXMCpRJYBdkRCrwHvlAPxgA7IDKnjaWNabID7b0niVEQCe9MtmrmzyYR/s1920/Screenshot_20210902-235246.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1920" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZmFL1S5VaAz867x_vcZaso3VZ04JvWIJJ2bXKeD7vGELFtuOzACmBkZz93MOulkMrq7LnpR2HrmI193kZDvjepXMCpRJYBdkRCrwHvlAPxgA7IDKnjaWNabID7b0niVEQCe9MtmrmzyYR/s320/Screenshot_20210902-235246.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-84206853540393250022021-09-09T00:00:00.001-07:002021-09-09T00:00:00.180-07:00A Nice Surprise<p> I was perusing around the internet for glazes and wound up on www.coyoteclay.com. I clicked on their Gallery tab and scrolled through all the wonderful customer submissions to previous contests they held over the years. I participated a few times but forgot all about it. So I scrolled down the page to Matt And Crawl Glazes and to my pleasant surprise was my large egg in nest! There's a typo in my name but I'm still 😊 thrilled. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaOKf2beVbRRXfcNtH3Q1PBj6_XQPQ3nni4HKK8C6Kd6r4w4T4lEUysRiU40A8hleOcu0zucxq2XoBn3RQHaghxC_rRoLGCr1SLxagOjiBHW8o70dubY0uFPCnVBTfF3ibfSIBKAAm4bZ4/s2048/Screenshot_20210902-233337_Chrome.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="2048" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaOKf2beVbRRXfcNtH3Q1PBj6_XQPQ3nni4HKK8C6Kd6r4w4T4lEUysRiU40A8hleOcu0zucxq2XoBn3RQHaghxC_rRoLGCr1SLxagOjiBHW8o70dubY0uFPCnVBTfF3ibfSIBKAAm4bZ4/s320/Screenshot_20210902-233337_Chrome.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-61205894276391171502021-09-03T00:00:00.001-07:002021-09-03T00:00:00.185-07:00Christmas Came Early<p> When I created this blog, I didn't give any thought about how my pottery and pottery mark related to this site. I just had fun documenting my progress with clay projects over the years. It eventually acted as a digital portfolio for anyone who wanted to check out my work. I stamped my initials on my work with no real link to this blog unless a customer managed to keep my business card that links the two. So an upgrade was necessary. Since my son just happens to have a cnc machine in his garage, I asked him if he would make a new pottery stamp that says Mom Cave Pots. I had two bags of medium dark brown clay and could not tell whether they were brown or a speckled buff. Only after a glaze firing could I tell that both of the smallest bowls were of speckled buff clay. The other two bowls are a clay blend that I've been experimenting with to achieve a grainy looking elephant gray color. The blend uses Laguna b-mix and clay/dirt from my yard. I can have bands of the lighter clay show through if my blending is not thorough enough, as the mark on the middle left bowl shows. That could be a cool look for a bigger test on another day.<p></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-19360049808073881092021-03-02T11:10:00.001-08:002021-03-02T11:10:38.162-08:00Happy Kiln Day<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijom6y-bnD6RESOsfPK7SEP3t39_hSA3NeJSeGhwFRG4WLfsXD6EKhDMrR-4K16mK5-CsWKlgtN7Qv4WijXCCzV75nECWLocgVxhMY-vYFEs3IEAWjdJHIkDZM97wOhhPYX5pHx2PG9SIM/s2048/Screenshot_20210302-114518_Gallery.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijom6y-bnD6RESOsfPK7SEP3t39_hSA3NeJSeGhwFRG4WLfsXD6EKhDMrR-4K16mK5-CsWKlgtN7Qv4WijXCCzV75nECWLocgVxhMY-vYFEs3IEAWjdJHIkDZM97wOhhPYX5pHx2PG9SIM/s320/Screenshot_20210302-114518_Gallery.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoyIVG8a4-HjV9qHLzroO1-5vT0kL03zsXcQdlSu_UpnY5s0Nf5e0x5CVYS4Qx7g-6nd8mfBV1vOJpdO_a7T-E4vg0v6IQmB_ucjqpY2qtMK2e8zcnnmelVlSu31GHrUiaEf5g-YEFz5bf/s2048/Screenshot_20210302-115501_Gallery.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoyIVG8a4-HjV9qHLzroO1-5vT0kL03zsXcQdlSu_UpnY5s0Nf5e0x5CVYS4Qx7g-6nd8mfBV1vOJpdO_a7T-E4vg0v6IQmB_ucjqpY2qtMK2e8zcnnmelVlSu31GHrUiaEf5g-YEFz5bf/s320/Screenshot_20210302-115501_Gallery.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Progress, progress. It's a bit of a struggle but since I've focused on sprig molds for custom decorating, I'm looking at mug decorating a bit differently now. Instead of using glaze layering and the kiln to do the heavy lifting, so to speak, I'm searching for new shapes to make into small molds. The Roman lion mold came from a clay impression I made from a metal sun dial. I plan to use a dark glaze as a stain just on the lion decoration. The rest of the mug will get the usual 3 coats of brushed on glaze....colors are still to be determined. <p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-56365457604141513072020-12-30T01:00:00.001-08:002020-12-30T01:00:05.677-08:00Jade out of the shade<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRRHP7lPZaQd5hjjC8CZXkSxf2A2cLDddlLGZ8OR_oHAOyQ6MkaB2zMdH2YwT0LN4gGVxsDxveCSIlfRst-J3HhdThl8B0H1veXLBDuOSvoZrTQprkCriCQsS8vhS5XHCHOP8Q6hjqmEkj/s2048/IMG_20200718_152909.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1152" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRRHP7lPZaQd5hjjC8CZXkSxf2A2cLDddlLGZ8OR_oHAOyQ6MkaB2zMdH2YwT0LN4gGVxsDxveCSIlfRst-J3HhdThl8B0H1veXLBDuOSvoZrTQprkCriCQsS8vhS5XHCHOP8Q6hjqmEkj/s320/IMG_20200718_152909.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih64ubNXVjZKtIw-xkS37_bgROo_XoNtf5p92syshplODxIphJqRBpoMtv0BOZ6Knqdxc_i0FsVTCUC_fBrd7454PckkT2rwtnI-WmuHk1I0b0JahsPa1Zw1b7EpnxzRMcKnIIawWVFA_1/s2048/20201208_130818.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih64ubNXVjZKtIw-xkS37_bgROo_XoNtf5p92syshplODxIphJqRBpoMtv0BOZ6Knqdxc_i0FsVTCUC_fBrd7454PckkT2rwtnI-WmuHk1I0b0JahsPa1Zw1b7EpnxzRMcKnIIawWVFA_1/s320/20201208_130818.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvoXJ1CxVxWBm_YlS_N0LJ7EFScGdReBRcPGV-bWZlPr5HW2iUgT94vfuFfkOLSlt2WC70OFN5EcuGqToK-fTy_PR6txKaoIpkAhVqiqytL3W_-qh2H5v64FvebDuVV6Xy__zVrYsZIDIM/s2048/20201208_130936.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1280" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvoXJ1CxVxWBm_YlS_N0LJ7EFScGdReBRcPGV-bWZlPr5HW2iUgT94vfuFfkOLSlt2WC70OFN5EcuGqToK-fTy_PR6txKaoIpkAhVqiqytL3W_-qh2H5v64FvebDuVV6Xy__zVrYsZIDIM/s320/20201208_130936.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxdc3ynm7AfLH8-xTXcc7DrV0gS8m0OqVYamY6l-8d4yi6-jTuFQr0xQ_-fvpl9Rp81FGF2ucpBbTLT91KJrzghd0xyr3TKud9OdBMN2-lGuUfm-86bZgwEqEXO7nMoYBlONUyEeuKWIVI/s2048/20201219_120307.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1280" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxdc3ynm7AfLH8-xTXcc7DrV0gS8m0OqVYamY6l-8d4yi6-jTuFQr0xQ_-fvpl9Rp81FGF2ucpBbTLT91KJrzghd0xyr3TKud9OdBMN2-lGuUfm-86bZgwEqEXO7nMoYBlONUyEeuKWIVI/s320/20201219_120307.jpg" /></a></div><br /> I have owned this jade plant, which has turned into a tree, for more than 30 years. In all its life, this is the first time it has had a decent sunny space to live in. I think it would have been even larger by now if it had not suffered in low light and a small pot. Anyway, I finally made a larger exotic looking pot for it. I hope it likes it. It's been a year since I last posted....a long, terrible year. In general, I shouldn't complain. I still work on pottery, and that has been a precious thing. You would think I would be more productive and creative since I'm home ALOT these days, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm working on it and looking forward to a new year of creating. Fingers crossed. Here's a photo I want to share of the local park decorated for the holidays. The sky is dark but the lights are bright; a metaphor perhaps.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZpjLiNOK76z3ueW8SKIovCnZZBysaSgLc4ZnpoEklzzzkc71hvb4frZxIog6Pb1LagOR9J46xjB8TGIaBOk26k_OtzGYhPbFsV-3yVRkBPbW2eaTdNsRnioxchsYsg0sEXqFkTY0uk85g/s2048/IMG_20201221_175318.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZpjLiNOK76z3ueW8SKIovCnZZBysaSgLc4ZnpoEklzzzkc71hvb4frZxIog6Pb1LagOR9J46xjB8TGIaBOk26k_OtzGYhPbFsV-3yVRkBPbW2eaTdNsRnioxchsYsg0sEXqFkTY0uk85g/s320/IMG_20201221_175318.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p></p>Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-4173169788094892382019-12-24T11:27:00.000-08:002019-12-24T11:27:10.406-08:00All I Need is Crackers<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I made a cream cheese creation for a party. Tree is sitting on a square plate with my blue sugar jar next to soup bowls. Nothing like being creative with something you can eat or eat off of. Lately, my new focus is to make custom items for me. Not a friend, not a neighbor, not to sell....Me. I needed a weather proof sign to redirect package deliveries from my front gate to my side door. My favorite way to "make" is to throw on the wheel and alter the shape. Since I preferred an oval shape for my sign, I threw a flat platter with a rounded edge. I sliced a diamond-like shape out of the center and pushed and smooshed until the two sides came together. I used a metal rib to compress and even out the center before I painted on three coats of a dark slip. Once that firmed up, I carved in the words, painted them in with yellow colored slip and carved the edge to create a rope-like edge. The edge got a blue glaze and the center got a clear. Now what else do I need?Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02836622749563532159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-694822514161750637.post-30820767566007255172019-10-13T01:00:00.000-07:002019-10-13T01:00:02.125-07:00A Bevy of Bowls<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

How did a year get away from me? I'm still having fun creating with clay, keeping my clay class going at the center and firing the kiln. This piece is about 11 inches tall. It was suppose to be a simple piece to put in my sunroom to grow some cherry tomatoes through the winter, but I always get a bit carried away with extra handles, dark slip and carving. That is the fun of it all, isn't it though.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
